A little
about me.
Software engineer with a strong open-source background. Currently mentoring at the Wikimedia Foundation and contributing to tools used by millions of people worldwide.
I'm Ademola Omosanya, a software engineer based in Lagos, Nigeria. My journey into engineering started with a curiosity about how things on the internet are built — and it hasn't stopped since.
My open-source story began with OCaml and grew into a meaningful internship at the Wikimedia Foundation through Outreachy, where I contributed to the MediaWiki VisualData extension. I stayed on as a volunteer, then returned as a mentor for the December 2025 – March 2026 Outreachy cohort — guiding interns through a real-world rewrite of PendingChangesBot from PHP to Python, running code reviews, and helping them navigate Wikimedia's open-source workflows.
In May 2026, I was awarded a scholarship by the Wikimedia Foundation to attend the Wikimedia Hackathon in Milan, Italy — an annual event bringing together developers from across the world to improve Wikipedia and its sister projects. At the hackathon I worked on issues with the Paulina tool (T423625) and fixed bugs in the Cat-a-lot gadget on Wikimedia Commons.
I care about writing clean, maintainable code and collaborating in communities that make technology more accessible. I enjoy reviewing PRs, participating in technical discussions, and helping developers find their footing in large open-source projects.
When I'm not building things, I'm learning — whether that's a new framework, a design pattern, or how other engineers approach hard problems.
